SUMMER FLING COLUMBUS SEPTEMBER 6-10, 2023 2023 JEGS PERFORMANCE SUMMER FLING PRESENTED BY OPTIMA BATTERIES PRE-RACE Hebron, OH - The second half of the Fling Race Series tour begins this week at the JEGS Performance Summer Fling presented by Optima Batteries at National Trail Raceway. The event could prove to be the largest Summer Fling yet with the inclusion of the highly-anticipated $100K Fling All-Star Shootout presented by Fuel Factory.

The Fling Team is bringing three $30K races for $690 with $200 round money Friday through Sunday, over $55,000 in racer appreciation giveaways, and a free Laris Motorsports Insurance steak dinner with live music Friday night. The full 'Fling Experience' will be delivered with a fun, family atmosphere at a professionally-run race.

"After listening to feedback after this event last year, we decided to lower the weekend entry fees and format the main event days to take place Friday through Sunday," said promoter Peter Biondo. "We hope to make it easier for racers who can't take off from work and can't get here until the weekend."

New to the Summer Fling will be the K&N Pro 48 category where bottom-bulb drivers will race until one remains to win the $2,000 bonus, custom trophy, and combine into the main event field.

The event fires up with the Law Chevrolet Test and Tune run in conjunction with the All-Star Shootout on Wednesday afternoon. Advanced Product Design Thursday will be a $15,000-to-win warm-up day, with ATI Performance $30K Friday, Fuel Tech $30K Saturday, and American Race Cars $30K Sunday to follow.

Everything will be streamed live as it happens on the MotorManiaTV YouTube channel free to the viewer courtesy of Strange Engineering with new exclusive content produced by the Fling Team.

SCOTTY RICHARDSON WINS $100,000 ALL-STAR SHOOTOUT AT THE SUMMER FLING Hebron, OH - With 48 of the country's best drivers on property, an exciting day was in store at the JEGS Performance Summer Fling presented by Optima Batteries at National Trail Raceway. The $100,000 All-Star Shootout presented by Fuel Factory was nearly a year in the making, and the time had finally arrived.

The Fling Team nominated 12 racers while another set of 12 racers was decided by public poll. Once the 24 drivers were set, each nominated a teammate of the opposite vehicle type to create a field of 24 door cars and 24 dragsters.

The All-Stars qualified during the second time run based on reaction time, and the top 12 in door cars and top 12 in dragsters participated in a callout streamed live. Some racers were headhunting, while most claimed they would rather avoid racing any of the drivers.

After third round Mark Kidd, Scotty Richardson, Larry Piper, Scott Taylor, Gage Burch, and Kevin Pollard remained on the door car side while Johnny Ezell, Nick Folk, Tommy Cable, Ray Miller III, Donovan Williams, and Cory Gulitti were the last of the dragsters.

A new ladder was set at six cars including Richardson, Burch, Williams, Taylor, Miller, and Ezell. Richardson was four-thousandths ahead at the hit and ended up .004 ahead at the stripe to run dead-on 6 to move past Burch, while Taylor used a .020 starting line advantage with a .004 bulb over Williams that would earn him the bye to the final. Ezell backed into Miller to put it dead-on two.

In the semifinals, Ezell held a .012 advantage on the tree but broke out six thousandths to bow out against Richardson who dropped it dead-on three. Taylor opted to make a full pass on the bye in an attempt to score lane choice in the final but turned it .002 red.

Richardson captured the $100,000 All-Star big check by taking .005 in the RBZ Billet '69 Camaro for the win over Taylor and collected the $7,500 Fuel Factory Team Bonus with his brother Edmond. The victory is Richardson's second Fling winners' circle in addition to his 2020 Spring Fling Million Bristol win.

Thursday will start off with a time run for all racers on the property as we work towards crowning a $15,000 Champion on Advanced Product Design Thursday.

Everything will be streamed live as it happens on the MotorManiaTV YouTube channel free to the viewer courtesy of Strange Engineering with new exclusive content produced by the Fling Team.

GAGE BURCH DOMINATES ADVANCED PRODUCT DESIGN $15,000 THURSDAY AT THE SUMMER FLING Hebron, OH - Day two of the JEGS Performance Summer Fling presented by Optima Batteries at National Trail Raceway saw 328 racers stage up for the first round of Advanced Product Design $15,000 Wednesday.

Every racer on property had the opportunity for a time shot in the morning to get dialed in for the rest of the week. Eliminations moved smoothly throughout the day, and as the track lights switched on, the field grew smaller. The final nine included Gage Burch in two entries, Ben Haight, Jon Siegel, Camron Kardules, Makenna Brown, Jeremy York, Will Holloman, and Joe Barush.

In the quarterfinals, Burch and York were identical on the tree but Burch put it dead-on one to put one of his entries in the semifinals. Siegel had a .010 advantage on the line and ran dead-on with a nine to knock out Holloman, after which Burch took a hit at the tree on the bye for his second entry to be .001.

The odds worked against Burch racing himself in the final as Siegel would receive the bye in the semifinals. In the final for $15,000 Burch let go perfect for the second time of the night to win on APD Thursday and cap off a stellar performance.

ATI Performance Products $30,000 Friday will kick off the Fling Triple $30Ks. The morning will begin with New Entry Time Runs, followed by eliminations starting with K&N Pro 48 where the bottom-bulb bonus will be $2,000. At 7 p.m. the Laris Motorsports Insurance Racer Appreciation Party will kick off with a free steak dinner and live music for racers and their families.

Everything will be streamed live as it happens on the MotorManiaTV YouTube channel free to the viewer courtesy of Strange Engineering with new exclusive content produced by the Fling Team.

ERIC SANDLIN CROWNED ATI PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS $30,000 FRIDAY CHAMPION AT THE SUMMER FLING Hebron, OH - The first of three $30,000 big checks was on the line on ATI Performance Products Friday at the JEGS Performance Summer Fling presented by Optima Batteries at National Trail Raceway. 407 entries took their shot at securing a main event payday.

Early afternoon showers pushed on-track action into the early Saturday morning with the cooperation of the racers and the intent to maintain momentum and finish the event. The last nine cars remaining included Brian Self, Eric Sandlin, Donny Burleson, Garrett Griffith, Larry Houck II, Steve Law, Jack Ligget, Mike Barber, and Jeremy York.

In the quarterfinals Sandlin had a .015 advantage on the tree and put it dead-on four over Law, while Burleson ran it down to run his dial with a four to knock out Houck. Griffith made a full pass on the bye with a .005 redlight and ran four-thousandths under.

Both Sandlin and Griffith ran one above in the semifinals but it was the .016 advantage off the starting line that illuminated the winlight for Sandlin. In his solo trip down the track, Burleson was .005 and ran his 4.46 dial with a six.

In the all-Texan final, the '85 S-10 of Sandlin laid down .005 total against the '22 Ultra Tech dragster of Burleson who made a decent run himself with an .016, dead-on five lap. This would make for Sandlin's first-ever Fling event win for $30,000 on ATI Friday.

FuelTech $30,000 Saturday will begin with New Entry Time Runs followed by eliminations starting with K&N Pro 48 where the bottom-bulb bonus will be $2,000.

JEREMY YORK SECURES FUELTECH $30,000 SATURDAY AT THE SUMMER FLING Hebron, OH - FuelTech $30,000 Saturday at the JEGS Performance Summer Fling presented by Optima Batteries brought sunny, clear skies for the 431 entries on property at National Trail Raceway. The count was a record-high since the beginning of the Summer Fling in 2021.

The best door car and best dragster package of the weekend throughout eliminations from Thursday to third round Saturday met in a match race for a set of Brodix cylinder heads. Ben Haight qualified on the door car side with perfect package (off the bottom) while Johnny Ezell was the representative on the dragster side after being .002 total (.001 and dead-on 1). Ezell was .008 and took a thousandth at the finish line to be .011 above against the .016, dead-on four against Haight to pick up the brand new set of SR20 heads.

The quarterfinals included Jeremy York, Caraline McCarty, Preston Pennington in two entries, Todd Piper, Kyle Cultrera. Pennington let go perfect to the .001 of Piper, and Piper took three thousandths to breakout by seven thousandths, advancing Pennington who was only .003 under the dial. McCarty turned it four thousandths red and ran dead-on eight against the .024 package of York, allowing York to advance to the semifinals. In the last pair, Cultrera was .003 but gave it back two thousandths to Pennington, who still laid down .012 total.

Pennington's .000 bulb earned him a bye in the semifinals in one of his entries, and in the second entry he faced York. He was .001 to York's .014, but broke out three thousandths to the dead-on six of York meaning they would have to face off once more in the final round.

Both Pennington and York were in attendance at the Summer Fling to participate in the $100K All-Star Shootout, and their performances throughout the day proved it. In their final duel, York was .003 and put it dead-on five to be .008 total against the .011 and dead-on seven run of Pennington. The Fuel Tech $30,000 Saturday big check was York's second Fling event win.

RANDY KRAUSE WINS FINAL $30,000 RACE AT THE SUMMER FLING ON AMERICAN RACE CARS SUNDAY Hebron, OH - The final day at the JEGS Performance Summer Fling presented by Optima Batteries at National Trail Raceway brought sunny skies and another $30,000 big check courtesy of American Race Cars.

The morning fired up with the Summer Fling Reaction Time Challenge, where 25 racers were randomly selected to take a hit at the tree for cash. Five drivers earned $100 for ‘double-O’ reaction times.

Roughly 400 entries made for an action-packed day, but the cooperation of the racers allowed the rounds to go by swiftly. As the sun began to set nine racers remained including Kenny Underwood in two entries, Pro bonus winner Matt Obertanec, Randy Krause, Mike Rogers, Dennis Meade, Jim Glenn, Nick Folk, and Tim Wurtz.

In the quarterfinals, Glenn was .018 and dead-on one to the .015 red of Wurtz, while Obertanec had an eight thousandths reaction time advantage on Underwood and got to the stripe by .009 to run dead-on two to advance. Krause made a solo pass down the track on the bye.

With all three drivers remaining having had a bye, Krause qualified for the semifinal bye with the best reaction time. Glenn was .016 and dead-on three over Obertanec, while Krause put together .015 total on his bye to the final.

In a west versus east coast matchup, Krause was .013 and dead-on two in his ‘19 S&W dragster for his first-ever Fling event win, earning the last $30,000 prize of the week. Glenn was .006 red and dead-on five in the runner-up effort.

The final stop on the 2023 Fling Race Series tour will be the RAD Torque Systems Fall Fling presented by Optima Batteries at Bristol Dragway, Tennessee September 26-30. The pre-entry only even sold out in just three minutes and was capped at 425 single entries.
