Kyle Seipel is likely the most decorated sportsman driver in the history of NHRA's Pacific Division (Division 7), having claimed a total of 22 Division 7 Championships. That's not a typographical error; Seipel has won 10 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 championships in Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street. Even more impressively, he has amassed an incredible 12 Division 7 E.T. Finals crowns! What's more? Seipel, now 44, has raced on a fairly limited schedule (without seriously chasing points) for over a decade, having earned his most recent Division 7 crown in Super Comp back in 2000. As if 22 Division championships weren't impressive enough, do the math: Seipel earned each of those crowns prior to his 30th birthday. The highlight of Seipel's astounding run comes from 1994-1996. In those three seasons, Seipel compiled drag racings version of the "triple-double," as he earned a pair of Division 7 crowns each season for three consecutive years! He earned the top spot in Super Comp and Super Street in '94, Super Gas and Super Street in '95, and then Super Comp and Super Gas in '96!
In addition to his success along the NHRA tour, Seipel is also an accomplished big buck bracket racer. In that venue, he earned his richest and most prestigious title at the 2007 Thanksgiving Bracket Nationals in Las Vegas. There, he defeated two of the most accomplished racers in sportsman history, Jeg Coughlin, Jr. and Peter Biondo, in the semi-final and final round, respectively, to earn the $45,000 top prize.
Kyle comes from a racing family. His father, Ted, is recognized as a legend and pioneer of sportsman drag racing. He and Kyle enjoyed great success with a four-car team throughout the late 1980's and early '90's, both competing in Super Gas and Super Street. Ted is a multi-time Division 7 champion in his own right and has bracket raced the same vehicle since 1958!
Not only was Kyle's father heavily involved in the sport, but his mother Georgia has also made her career in the racing industry. After attending events with Ted for years, Georgia took the wheel on several occasions and enjoyed success prior to stepping into track management. She has worked as a track manager, first at the long defunct Baylands Speedway, before taking her current position at Sonoma Raceway, for nearly 35 years.
